Accident insurance isn't an investment you need to watch – but it isn't paperwork you can lock in a drawer either. The middle path is the review routine: a quarter-hour, if it's warranted or you ask, in which the policy catches up with your life. With me, this isn't the client's burden alone: if you let me know before the anniversary, I help with the review – this article shows what happens then.
The quick list: job or occupation, a new sport or competing, family events (a birth, a divorce, a child signing up with a club), housing, income level, your company situation. Whatever has changed can have a policy-side consequence – following the map in the reporting-changes article. The anniversary is the safety net: anything missed during the year can be caught up here.
The amounts were right at signing – the question is whether they still are: has income grown (the daily benefit and the big elements should keep pace), have expenses grown, has the family's dependency changed. Re-running the sizing principles in your head takes two minutes – and if life has taken a big step, raising the amount is typically a simple amendment.
Keeping sport and occupation details in sync is the key to a secure payout. Plus the cast of roles: is the beneficiary designation current, is every family member who should be insured actually on the policy (and no one who shouldn't be). For a company policy, it's the same: name list, categories, headcount.
Is premium payment running smoothly, is the bank account right, are your contact details live. And once a year it's worth asking the market question too: is the existing structure still competitive – not with any pressure to switch, but through a level-headed comparison; if the existing one is the right one, I'll say so. For a bigger overhaul, the tool is a full review.
Because policies don't usually go wrong at claim time – they go wrong in the quiet years: an outdated amount, an unreported sport, an old beneficiary. The quarter-hour catches these – comfortably, over coffee, on request or when it's warranted. The version you can tick off: the annual checklist – and if any point in the routine raises a question, the 20-minute consultation is there for it.
