The annual review routine article explains the why – this list is the how: a quarter of an hour, top to bottom, and the policy is back in sync with your life. Best timing: the anniversary month (or any fixed point – a birthday, the start of the school year).
In short:- Five blocks: life changes → amounts → risk details → roles → premium and admin.
- Most years, every box stays unticked – that's a result too: you know everything is in order.
- Wherever you get stuck: on request, we'll talk it through – or book an appointment.
Block 1: what changed this year?
- ☐ A change of job or occupation? (In either direction – more physical or more office-based!)
- ☐ A new sport, a first competition licence, a child signing up with a club?
- ☐ A family event: a birth, a divorce, a new partner, a child turning 18?
- ☐ A meaningful change in income?
- ☐ Long-term work abroad, or moving house?
Block 2: the amounts
- ☐ Does the daily benefit still cover the monthly gap? (A quick re-run of the sizing principles.)
- ☐ Is the permanent disability amount sized to your life today?
- ☐ Have the children's amounts grown along with them?
Block 3: the risk details
Block 4: the roles
- ☐ Is the beneficiary designation current?
- ☐ Is every family member who needs to be insured, insured – and no one who no longer needs to be?
- ☐ For a company policy: are the name list and categories up to date?
Block 5: premium and admin
- ☐ Is premium payment running smoothly (with the mandate carried over if you changed bank accounts)?
- ☐ Are your contact details (address, e-mail, phone) up to date with the insurer?
- ☐ Are the policy and the claims hotline number saved in the family folder / on your phone?
- ☐ Ask the annual market question: is the structure still competitive? (If in doubt: a review.)
If you got stuck ticking off any row: if you let me know before the renewal date, I'll prepare the comparison and the paperwork. This list's companion for claims: the claim reporting checklist.
